Maxine Revere Series Books in Order

The Maxine Revere Series by Allison Brennan follows Maxine Revere, a true crime television journalist and author who investigates cold cases — old murders, unsolved disappearances, and miscarriages of justice that the formal system has moved on from but the victims' families never could. Maxine is smart, relentless, and not always easy to like, which makes her considerably more interesting than the typical amateur sleuth.

Brennan writes procedurals with strong thriller pacing. The cold case format gives the series a distinctive structure — Maxine must reconstruct crimes years or decades old, working with degraded evidence, faded memories, and witnesses with complicated relationships to the truth. The TV journalist angle also raises interesting questions about the ethics of turning tragedy into entertainment.

The series launched in 2015 and built a following among readers who enjoy crime fiction with a media-savvy angle and a protagonist who operates in the space between journalism and investigation. Maxine's personal history — her own family's tragedies, her complicated relationships — provides emotional depth beyond the cases themselves.
