Jujutsu Kaisen Books in Order

The Jujutsu Kaisen Series is a blockbuster dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2018 to 2025. The series is set in a hidden world where Cursed Spirits — malevolent entities born from the accumulated negative emotions of humanity — threaten the living, and Jujutsu Sorcerers are trained to combat them using their own supernatural energy. The story begins with Yuji Itadori, an ordinary high school student with extraordinary physical ability who swallows a cursed finger belonging to the legendary demon Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, to save his classmates — and is immediately condemned to be executed once all 20 fingers are consumed.

Akutami's series stands out in the crowded shōnen landscape for its willingness to kill significant characters, its morally complex world-building (the Jujutsu society is hierarchical, corrupt, and often as threatening to its own members as the curses are), and its exceptionally inventive power system based on the manipulation of Cursed Energy. The action sequences are among the most kinetic and imaginatively choreographed in contemporary manga, and the arc-level plotting builds to confrontations of genuine narrative weight.

Comprising 31 volumes published from 2017 through 2025, the series reached its conclusion and stands as a complete work. The anime adaptation by MAPPA — particularly its acclaimed second season covering the Shibuya Incident arc — has brought the franchise to a global audience. Essential for fans of Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, and darker shōnen action manga. Must be read in order from volume one.
