Yuji Itadori

Yuji Itadori is the kindhearted, physically extraordinary protagonist of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga — a high school student with superhuman physical abilities who swallows a cursed finger belonging to the ancient and immensely powerful Cursed Spirit Ryomen Sukuna in order to save his classmates, becoming Sukuna's vessel and entering the world of Jujutsu Sorcery under a death sentence that will be carried out once all of Sukuna's fingers are consumed. He accepts this fate with a characteristic lack of self-pity.

Akutami writes Yuji with a specific kind of moral simplicity that the series's increasingly complex situations push against productively — his core conviction that people deserve a proper death, rooted in his grandfather's dying words, is the ethical framework that guides him through situations far beyond anything his instincts were formed to handle. His relationship with Sukuna — sharing a body with an ancient evil who holds him in contempt — provides the series' central supernatural tension.

Jujutsu Kaisen became one of the most popular manga series of the 2020s, with an anime adaptation by MAPPA that is widely praised for its animation quality.
