Biography
Sara Linton is the pediatrician and county coroner protagonist of Karin Slaughter's Grant County series β a doctor in a small Georgia town who works alongside (and is in a complicated relationship with) Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver. Slaughter writes her medical and forensic expertise with genuine authority, and Sara's dual professional roles β treating living patients and examining the dead β give her a distinctive perspective on the violence she investigates.
Slaughter is one of crime fiction's most uncompromising writers, and the Grant County series reflects her willingness to engage with violence and trauma honestly rather than at a safe distance. Sara's own experience of sexual assault, depicted in the series, is handled with the seriousness it deserves β not as backstory decoration but as an ongoing fact of her life that shapes her responses to the cases she encounters.
The series connects to Slaughter's Atlanta-set Will Trent novels β Sara eventually joins the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and appears in both series. Readers of either can benefit from reading both, though each works independently.
Begin with Blindsighted (2001) for the Grant County series, or with Triptych for the Will Trent series that Sara later joins.
