Ruby

Ruby is the fiery protagonist of Elly Blake's Frostblood Saga. Born with the rare ability to generate heat and flame in a world ruled by ice-wielding Frostbloods, Ruby has spent her entire life hiding her power in fear of the Frost King's persecution. When soldiers burn her village and kill her mother, she is captured and imprisoned — only to be rescued by a monk and a Frostblood warrior who need her fire to destroy a cursed throne.

Ruby's journey from hunted fugitive to reluctant rebel to powerful force for change forms the emotional spine of the trilogy. Headstrong, impulsive, and fiercely loyal, she is defined by the tension between the destructive potential of her power and her deep desire to protect the people she loves. Her relationship with the Frostblood warrior Arcus — enemies turned allies turned something more — is one of the series' central pleasures.
