Gutel

Gutel is a grumpy but fiercely loyal kobold who accompanies Cassia on her dangerous journey in Elly Blake's Thirstwood series. Kobolds in this world are small, irascible supernatural creatures bound by their own codes of honor, and Gutel embodies both the comic irritability and the unexpected steadfastness of his kind. He provides both comic relief and genuine emotional support to Cassia as she navigates the deadly curse that defines her existence.

Gutel's loyalty is hard-won and deeply meaningful — he doesn't offer easy warmth or flattery, making his devotion to Cassia all the more significant when it shows itself. His presence grounds some of the series' darker moments with dark humor and the specific pleasure of a companion who complains constantly but never actually abandons you when it matters.
