Emma Griffin

Emma Griffin is the fiercely intelligent FBI agent protagonist of E.R. Johansen's Emma Griffin FBI Mystery series — a woman whose exceptional investigative skills are shadowed by the traumatic unsolved deaths of her parents, a cold case that has haunted her career and shapes how she approaches every investigation. Johansen writes Emma with the specific psychology of someone whose professional excellence is inseparable from a personal wound that has never healed.

The FBI setting gives the series its procedural framework, but Johansen develops Emma as a character with genuine depth beyond her professional competence — her isolation, the ways the unsolved case has affected her relationships, and the determination she brings to every case she works reflect a consistent interior life across the series.

The Emma Griffin FBI Mystery series has built a substantial readership in the digital thriller space, praised for its fast pacing, its mystery plotting, and the ongoing development of Emma's personal case alongside the individual mysteries in each installment. The series rewards readers who follow it in order, as the arc of Emma's pursuit of answers about her parents develops across multiple books. Begin with Her Last Wish (2019).
