Biography
Daisy Jones is the fictional rock star at the center of Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel Daisy Jones and the Six β a free-spirited, charismatic singer-songwriter who rises through the 1970s Los Angeles music scene and eventually joins forces with the band Aurora (known as The Six), creating one of the era's defining albums before the band's dramatic dissolution. Reid tells Daisy's story in oral history format, as if reconstructed from interviews decades after the events.
Reid created Daisy as an archetype of a specific kind of female rock star β brilliant, magnetic, self-destructive, fighting for creative control in an industry that wants to package and commodify her. Her creative partnership and complicated personal relationship with Billy Dunne, The Six's lead singer, drives both the music and the eventual collapse.
The oral history format β interviews with all the former band members looking back from the present β allows Reid to capture the way different people remember the same events differently, and how the truth of what happened between Daisy and Billy exists in the space between their conflicting accounts. The Amazon Prime Video adaptation starring Riley Keough and Sam Claflin transferred the format effectively to television.
A standalone novel.
