Biography
Avery Grambs is the sharp, resourceful teenage protagonist of Jennifer Lynn Barnes's Inheritance Games series — a girl from a difficult background who discovers that billionaire Tobias Hawthorne has left his entire fortune to her, a stranger, cutting out his own family entirely. Moving into Hawthorne House — the Texas mansion where four competitive, brilliant Hawthorne grandsons live — Avery must solve the puzzle Tobias left behind to understand why she was chosen, while navigating the hostility, intrigue, and unexpected romance the house contains.
Barnes is one of YA fiction's most skilled plotters, and the Inheritance Games series is her most commercially successful work — a puzzle-box mystery combined with romance and family drama that delivers new revelations at a pace that has made the series among the most compulsively readable in recent YA publishing. Each novel ends with enough resolution to satisfy while opening new questions.
Avery's combination of street smarts, genuine intelligence, and emotional resilience makes her an appealing protagonist for the elaborately structured mysteries Barnes constructs around her. The four Hawthorne brothers — Nash, Grayson, Jameson, and Xander — are individually characterized and collectively compelling.
