About the Author
Lincoln Peirce (born 1963) is an American cartoonist, author, and television writer best known as the creator of Big Nate, a comic strip syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate since 1991. Big Nate follows eleven-year-old Nate Wright, a self-proclaimed genius who is chronically last in his class academically but maintains complete confidence in his own talents, at school and in life. The strip runs in more than 400 newspapers internationally and is one of the most widely read American newspaper comic strips.
Peirce adapted the Big Nate character into a successful series of illustrated novels beginning with Big Nate: In a Class by Himself (2010), which became a New York Times bestselling series aimed at middle grade readers aged 8β12. The novels combine comic strip-style artwork with prose narrative, and the format has proved enormously popular with reluctant readers. An animated series based on Big Nate premiered on Paramount+ in 2022. In addition to Big Nate, Peirce has worked as a television writer on animated series. He studied art at Dartmouth College and has spoken about the comic strip tradition β particularly Charles Schulz's Peanuts β as the primary influence on his style and sensibility.
