About the Author
James S.A. Corey is the pen name of the writing duo Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the authors of The Expanse series, one of the most acclaimed science fiction series of the modern era. Daniel Abraham, born in 1969, is an established fantasy author in his own right, while Ty Franck worked as a personal assistant to George R.R. Martin before co-creating The Expanse. The two began collaborating on the series in 2011, with Franck having originally conceived the universe as a setting for a role-playing game.
The Expanse is set several hundred years in the future, when humanity has colonized the solar system. The series follows a disparate cast of charactersβincluding a detective, a ship's captain, and a United Nations officialβwhose lives intersect around a vast conspiracy that threatens to ignite a war between Earth, Mars, and the outer planets. The series is celebrated for its rigorous scientific plausibility, its morally complex characters, and its sweeping political scope. It is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of 'hard science fiction' written in the 21st century.
The Expanse was adapted into a critically acclaimed television series, initially airing on Syfy before being rescued by Amazon Prime Video after fan outcry over its cancellation. The show ran for six seasons and was praised for its faithful adaptation of the source material. The book series concluded with Leviathan Wakes in 2011 and the final volume, Leviathan Falls, in 2021. Abraham and Franck live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
