About the Author
Holly Jackson is a British author of young adult fiction based in the United Kingdom. She published her debut novel, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, in 2019 after it was acquired by David Fickling Books, and watched it become one of the most successful YA debuts in recent memory β a word-of-mouth phenomenon that grew into a global bestseller driven substantially by the BookTok community.
The novel follows Pip Fitz-Amobi, a meticulous and determined teenage girl who chooses to investigate a closed murder case β the supposed murder-suicide of local golden couple Andie Bell and Sal Singh five years earlier β as her A-level extended project. The mystery is constructed with genuine craft, the protagonist is compelling and fully realized, and the novel's engagement with how small-town communities construct narratives around violent events gave it substance beyond its genre pleasures.
The series continued with Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020) and As Good as Dead (2021), completing Pip's trilogy and delivering the kind of escalating stakes and emotional payoff that mystery trilogies at their best achieve. A BBC television adaptation further expanded the series' audience.
Jackson has also published Five Survive, a standalone thriller with a different premise and characters, demonstrating her range beyond the Pip Fitz-Amobi world. She is one of the most important voices in YA mystery fiction working today, and her influence on the genre's current popularity β particularly via BookTok β is considerable.
