About the Author
Holly Black (born 1971) is an American fantasy author best known for two major bodies of work: The Spiderwick Chronicles (2003β2009, co-written with Tony DiTerlizzi), a five-book middle grade fantasy series about children who discover a faerie field guide, and the Folk of the Air Trilogy (2018β2020), a three-book YA dark fantasy series set in a world of faeries where a mortal girl must navigate treacherous fae politics. Black is widely credited with reviving mainstream interest in faerie mythology for YA readers in the 2010s.
The Folk of the Air trilogy β The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, and The Queen of Nothing β features Jude Duarte, a human raised in Faerie who schemes to carve out power in a world where she is considered inferior by birthright. The series is notable for its morally complex protagonist and antagonist, its political intrigue, and its slow-burn romantic tension. Black has also written the Magisterium series (with Cassandra Clare), The Darkest Part of the Forest, and the Curse Workers trilogy. She is a multiple New York Times bestselling author and a figure of significant influence in contemporary YA fantasy, recommended alongside Cassandra Clare, Sarah J. Maas, and Leigh Bardugo.
